Travel insurance can typically be purchased anytime prior to departure — in some cases even the day before travel. However, I recommend purchasing coverage within 14 days of your initial trip deposit/payment to maximize available benefits.
Important protections, including pre-existing condition waivers and Cancel Anytime-style coverage, may require the policy to be purchased within 14 days of your initial trip payment.
Insurance can still be purchased even if flights or exact travel dates have not yet been finalized. Trip details can typically be updated later as plans are confirmed.
Please note: travel insurance does not cover “known” or foreseeable events that existed prior to purchasing coverage.
